When designing a workout room or planning to open a gym in your home, the cost of Gym Flooring can really add up. Floors not only influence the appearance and use of the gym. More importantly, they provide safety, longevity and performance. In the UAE, where there is a booming fitness culture, you must be aware of the Cost Of gym Flooring. It allows both businesses and individuals to make better and wiser decisions that sit between quality and overall budget.
The world’s wealthiest people are showing an increased interest in the luxury gyms, boutique studios and pricey Home Fitness Machines available in Dubai. According to the increasing requirement, the quality of gym flooring has been changed as per the international standard.
Shocks are absorbed, footfalls muted, and heavy equipment’s damaging effects are avoided on the right flooring. Moreover, hygiene and maintenance are also important; dry and moist conditions in the gyms of the UAE will quickly ruin a floor that wasn’t designed to withstand them.
Multiple variables contribute to the overall price of gym flooring:
Type of Gym Flooring Material
The floors are constructed of a variety of materials, and estimated prices vary widely:
Rubber Flooring: As seen in a lot of gyms here in the UAE. It’s durable and resistant to slips and shocks. (It’s not exactly what the price per square meter is, but it ranges from AED 90 to AED 200 and depends on thickness and quality)
Foam Flooring: Cheap and easy to move around; recommended for yoga practice or a light workout area. Starting from AED 60 per sq m.
Vinyl floor: Easy options with a glossy finish, for which you can expect to pay AED 80 to AED 150 per sq ft.
Artificial Turf: Found in most CrossFit Zones or Functionalized Training Spaces. Costs are approximately AED 100 to AED 180 per sqft.
The thicker the gym floor, the more you will pay for it. The thickness of Gym Floorings in Dubai and Sharjah will usually be 6mm – 20 mm. More expensive, thicker models for weightlifting areas are more durable and provide better cushioning.
Installation Charges
Installation costs vary according to the size of the gym & type of flooring. Installation (professional) costs between AED 20 to AED 40 per sqm in the UAE. Nicer finishes or more fancy designs could lead to a higher price.
Customization and Branding
A lot of gyms in Dubai and Abu Dhabi particularly opt for personalized flooring with logos, designs, or select colour schemes. Bespoke flooring is not the cheapest, however, and adds to the cost, but it does create a high-end, branded look that members can buy into.
Size of the Area
Larger gyms get better bulk pricing, but the cost still increases with size. However, the square meters needed for this space may increase and decrease accordingly depending on whether it is a home gym or a sports center. 20–30 m² suffice in case of relatively small-scale Home gyms, whereas a fully equipped commercial gym has to have at least hundreds of them.
An average equipped gym in the UAE spends between AED 100 to AED 200 per sq. metre for flooring – including installation. For small home gyms, the investment could range between AED 5,000 and AED 10,000, while larger commercial gym operators may budget for AED 50,000 to AED 200,000 just on flooring based on size and material.
Rubber Tiles
You must be thinking about what Rubber Tiles are and where you would use them. Rubber tiles are in high demand at Dubai & Abu Dhabi gyms. A rubber matting contains good floor protection characteristics however, it is protective flooring for human beings too. They are modular, easy to install and available in a variety of thicknesses. They are ideal for weightlifting, cardio rooms, where these floors will hold up and be great at a value.
Roll Rubber Flooring
Rubber Roll Flooring works best for big spaces because it has fewer seams and results in a more professional look. Although they are a bit more expensive to install, they also offer the benefit of long-term savings because of their toughness.
Foam Mats
Affordable but soft, Foam Mats are great for at-home use and yoga studios, although we wouldn’t recommend them in areas using heavy equipment.
Artificial Turf
CrossFit boxes and boot camps across the UAE are embracing turf flooring. It is ideal for sled pushing, agility drills and functional training. More expensive than rubber, but it is versatile and looks good.
Vinyl Sports Flooring
You can also get these in vinyl for a more professional appearance, and they are perfect for your all-purpose studios. And they’re much easier to clean and take care of, which might be imperative in a humid location.
Home Gym Flooring Expense
Flooring can run between AED 3,000 to AED 6,000 (using Rubber Tiles) for a smaller area of around 30 sq meters. Foam mats reduce the cost even further, putting them within reach of the average person.
Commercial Gym Flooring Cost
High-traffic big box gyms will need a Heavy-Duty floor. For a 200m/sqm gym, flooring will be in excess of 50,000 AED+ if you decide to go for something luxurious as synthetic turf or custom rubber.
Cheap flooring could appear like a good idea at first but it can actually end up costing you more in the long run. Good Rubber gym flooring in the UAE can withstand for 7–10 years, as it’s an investment. It can also be easy to clean and maintain, so that it may last longer than its life.
The price of gym flooring in the UAE differs due to the material, thickness, or size, installation and customization, etc. The $100 price tag is cheap for a home gym, but significant if you run a commercial facility. With demand for fitness at an all-time high throughout Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and the other Emirates, you want to ensure that your floor stays safe and durable, so members of your gym stay happy.
Foam flooring is the cheapest option and begins at about AED 60 per square meter so it would be perfect for either yoga studios or use in a light-use home gym.
Rubber Flooring is so popular in Dubai gyms. We work on several Rubber flooring projects. The best is ( 90 – 200-AED) / m², depending on the thickness and quality.
Sure, artificial grass does cost a little bit more since it falls between AED 100 and AED 180 per square meter, but it has significantly more to offer for functional training areas.
For a home gym ranging from 20–30 sq m, expect to pay between AED 3,000 and AED 6,000 for flooring materials.
High-quality rubber or vinyl will often last 7-10 years, even with regular use and in the warm climate of Dubai, whereas cheaper foam mats tend to break down more quickly.
